Porch Reader Bookstore in the Philippines on Step Up PH

Porch Reader Bookstore in the Philippines was included in Step Up PH’s June-July 2021 Spotlight which focused on the diversity and independence of modern literature. The highlight was on the importance of different aspects of writing and readership that provided avenues for everybody to take part in literary culture across various communities.

What is Step Up PH

Step Up PH is a non-profit organization that was created by the youth with the goal of fostering a vibrant community of passionate citizens – a movement of everyday heroes that serve the country anywhere and in any way they can. 

They aim on bridging the gap in society through awareness campaigns as well as community service programs that are geared towards connecting the youth to social issues so that they can play a more active role in finding solutions.

How Porch Reader Bookstore Contribute to the Joys of Reading

The concept of Porch Reader Bookstore is to make books accessible to everyone. As booklovers ourselves, we want others to experience the joys of being able to hold a physical book without spending a lot. We started out as an online bookseller and have since expanded to having our own little bookstore in Valenzuela. 

In light of the pandemic, we have opened a private book group with monthly gatherings to talk about our chosen title and to get to meet new people. Through social media, we are also giving others the opportunity to share their love of books, their experiences, their thoughts, and more in a safe and friendly environment. We are hoping that one day, when things are safer for everyone, to meet our fellow bookworms in person. 

A Group with a Cause

Step Up PH’s advocacy is a promising one. We all need to do our part in our society, but in order to do this, we need to be more aware of the current issues that we are facing. The youth can help change the future of our country and it all starts with an initiative like what Step Up PH is doing. That said, we are honored for being featured for their June – July edition.
