Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks a book that I don’t know where to start. This book really broke my heart into pieces; I didn’t expect that it has happened.
This book follows the story of Adrienne, who was abandoned by her husband a few years ago. She is dealing with her daughter, who suffers anxiety because of her husband, who died in the accident. On the other side of a track, there’s a guy named Paul, a doctor trying to escape from his shattered past.
Jean, Adrienne’s friend, asks her if she wants to watch the Inn while she was on a wedding vacation or something. Adrienne agreed that she also needs to take a break from the things she’d come through, and she decided to fly in Rodanthe in North Carolina. Then Paul arrives there, and their tender love story begins.
This is the first Nicholas Spark’s book that I’ve read. I’m rotting to have my own copy of his works. I watched some of the film adaptations of his novels, and it’s so great to watch. This book really defined what the real definition of love is.
At first, I would say that the first to third chapters were slow-paced. I felt intrigued by the story and give it another chance to read until I reach the most interesting part of this book—the love story of the two main characters. I also love the writing style of Nicholas in this book. It is as easy to understand and detailed as I expected, it doesn’t have any metaphorical sentences, but I was assured that it was a beautiful book.
I’ve never been in a relationship. I don’t know what things need to consider when you are in love with someone else, but this book told what love is. It is a sign that the author is a great storyteller if he/she manage to feel the emotion or events that we didn’t experience in our life, and that’s how great author Nicholas is.
The love story of Adrienne and Paul makes me realize that love doesn’t require age. As you can see, Paul is much older than Adrienne, yet they still have this kind of affection for each other, and I could say that their love was inseparable. The characters in this book describe really well, and it also gives some background about their past that could connect to the future story of the protagonists.
I literally didn’t expect that I will burst into tears while reading it. I felt like I’m swimming in the river of my own tears. The plot was unpredictable. It doesn’t have many twists and turns, maybe because it’s a romance book, but honestly, the plot twist is so much greater than I expected.
Overall I cried reading this book. It was so sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. This book also talks about how hard to become a parent. It shares some ideas that being a parent is not easy as other think. I love this book, and maybe I could re-read it again someday.
