September is here, and do you know what we are excited about? The 38th Manila International Book Fair! The event will take place at SMX Convention Center Manila Mall of Asia this coming September 13-17, 2017. That would be next week (So excited!) so invite all your book loving friends to attend this important literary event of this year.
Here’s what we know about the 38th Manila International Book Fair.
The Manila International Book Fair is one of the most exciting events in the publishing industry that every book worm should not miss. It aims to spread the love for reading among the Filipino public, and provides a venue for the publishing and academic book industry, gathering not only the publishers, distributors, booksellers, authors, illustrators, and the academe, but also the end users: students, professionals, and book lovers.
And this year the organizer of the event, Primetrade Asia, Inc., said that the event would be much bigger than the past book fairs because it will occupy two floors of the SMX Convention Center. It means, more exhibitors will sell books up to 70% off their original price. (Plan a book budget starting now!) The entire second floor will be filled with children’s books, and young adult books which I think will be great because the kids and the young at hearts will have a wide variety of choices and can personally choose and discover new books they’re more likely to read.
The 11,980 square meters of exhibit space spread out over two floors will host over 100 exhibitors from all over the country. You will find local publishing companies that will do mini book launches of new titles with significant promotional discounts, and because the event has a best booth design contest, book lovers can see striking and stop-worthy booths that will give lots of freebies and giveaways. Meet and greet your favorite authors and illustrators at book signing events which are a great way to interact personally with your favorite writers and the authors can also reach to their readers. Hoarders of art supplies and crafts can find amazing stuff from coloring books to art prints and materials. Lastly, if you want to learn new things and be inspired, you can attend the workshops and seminars that will be hosted by different exhibitors. Some of the seminars have a small fee so make sure you check the schedule of the events to see which speaker will be talking at that day and how much will be the cost to attend the talk.
The fair also has an activity for people who love cosplaying. There will be a Fandom Fest Western Cosplay Competition at the end of the event date, September 17, 2017, which will take place at Stage Area 2 • 5:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. So, tell your cosplayer friends to try their luck or just attend the event wearing their favorite cosplay costumes.
So get ready and plan your itinerary next week because The 38th Manila International Book Fair will be a great convention for everybody (for bibliophiles and the like). If you are planning to buy lots of books, (and we know you will) bring your reusable shopping bags, rolling luggage or strollers because we all know that book hunting is a lot of hard work. See you there!
